Safety of Council Tenants
That the relevant changes are made to the recommendations as shown below in strikethrough and bold italics:
This Council:
a.
Acknowledges repeated concerns from city
residents, tenant, leaseholders and resident
associations that more co-operation between the police and
the council is necessary to tackle disruptive anti-social behaviour
and criminal activity to ensure safety of residentsthe
City is not cooperating or sharing CCTV footage when requested by
Sussex Police;
b. Notes further serious concerns expressed by the above groups concerning:
i. An
increase in drug-dealing and cuckooing on council estates since
Conservative Government cuts from 2010 to key services
including council funding, police resources and youth
servicesregular officer inspections were ended by the
council in 2018;
ii. The need for review of the current allocations policy;
iii.
The need for Government funding to facilitate adequate
support for Lack of adherence to the tenancy pathway
from street to council home, with placements made before
addictions treatment and mental healthhave
been overcome; and
iv. The
acute need to build more council and affordable homes to meet
the needs of the housing crisis 12 years of Conservative Government
has createdhigh number of empty council homes in estates
detracting from amenity; and
Therefore, resolves to:
1.
Calls
for a report to Housing Committee that outlines a strategy for
resolving the above issues Request the Chief
Executive writes to the Secretary of State for Housing and the
Chancellor of the Exchequer, lobbying for a reversal of spending
cuts to key services that have exacerbated drug crime, anti-social
behaviour as well as the housing crisis
2. Request a review of the working relationship between the council and the police to ensure better outcomes for the safety of residents.
